Comments in the wake of Hurricane Katrina

It seems the procedure of the world, including the United States, is to react to disasters rather than be pro-active toward them.
Those with a basic knowledge about climate and weather, and movement of water during massive floods, knew that New Orleans and many other parts of the Gulf Coast were sitting targets for a hurricane strike. It was really only a matter of time, when rather than if, for this city to be struck and become ravaged as it was. Man can only thumb his nose at nature for so long before nature shows him who's boss.
It is interesting to see the reactions of America - those of faith praying to God or Jesus despite this disaster. Would any such individuals pause to wonder why any just or moral God would allow such a disaster to happen in the first place? Why, no matter how much prayers are offered, ultimately it is the hands of mortal people, through groups such as the Red Cross and other government efforts, that saves the victims of this natural disaster? It is astounding to see people living in the world of superstition and blind faith, when a naturalistic view of the world would free them from such contradictions and falsehoods.
